Alright, the deadline for funding and the contest date have passed, and a couple people have asked directly how it went. I expected Inkshares to send out a status update automatically, but I’ll have to write it out myself, instead.

We did not reach the preorder numbers needed to get the book into circulation. Sigh.

According to the Inkshares FAQ, your purchases should have been automatically refunded. Please notify them if you don’t get refunded.

Still, thanks for pitching in and helping me get as far as I did! Inkshares is a very new thing, and the concept of crowdsourcing art is still in its infancy. I know that a lot of people didn’t quite understand the process going into it. As for me, I am new to site myself and didn’t have much pull or inroads into the community to draw on. Dragonford was in 14th place pretty much throughout the contest. While I am disappointed to lose out on a publishing opportunity, that’s just the nature of trying to be an author.

I encourage you all to go to the contest page and check out the three winning projects. They are still taking preorders, and will be very happy to continue getting support for their projects. Also, I have gone ahead and put up a project page for The Long Highway’s sequel: Dragonford- Wilderness. There’s a sample chapter up. See how our platoon of veterans does when they face the Thral on their home turf, the savanna of the Western Wilderland. Follow that page, as there will be more sample chapters to come. Cheers!

We are now at 100 preorders! That leaves Dragonford with quite a hill left to climb, but I am happy to reach this personal milestone. I hope you all have been enjoying the updates and material. Thank you for coming along for the ride. For those still waiting to make a purchase, I hope you will consider securing a preorder in the coming days. If you have made your purchase, be sure to use the Recommend button. Only 18 days left to go!

We are now into the last month of the contest and the funding campaign. Thank you so much for being along with me on this. I’ve got another sample up. Chapter 2-6, which is about the 2/3 mark of the book, has our characters ending their time in Sophia. In this excerpt, the characters are facing the consequences of their scheming, and starting to take the measure of what kind of threat their enemies in the platoon might pose. I hope you all enjoy the read!

Summer has come and gone, and it was a surprisingly busy time. In Korea, we are enjoying the fall festival of Chuseok. I was able to spend the day in the mountain temple of Golgulsa for the traditional prayers. On the book front, I have a little piece of world building for you. Every fantasy world needs a map, so I have drawn one! On the left, we start at the city of Greater Riddare, the Imperial Capital. Traveling west from the capital, we make our way past the events of this book, out to our final destination. Through Quidor, which sits on the Great River, into Anthar and down to the edge of the Great Divide, where cultists of the Great Liche Dartaff attempt to summon demons, further west to the vassal kingdom of Rimarov, and its capital city, Sophia, until finally, at the end of the highway, we enter the vast savanna known as the Western Wilderland...
Enjoy this little artifact in all of its hand-drawn wonder!

It’s been a long and interesting summer, now drawing to a close as the leaves change color on the trees. I had the opportunity to do a podcast with a local outfit. It was a really nice time. We talked about life in the military and life in Korea, and had a good opportunity to discuss the state of publishing today and the life of an aspiring creator. Check it out!

We are coming up on the end of the first month of the campaign. Thank you all for being here. The new excerpt comes from the second section of Chapter 1. As the platoon leaves the capital city, they make their way to the ancestral, pre-Imperial border, the Great River, where the city of Quidor rests. Here, the soldiery talk about the fierce battles they faced in the Ellohi Advance, the officers discuss how they will lead their platoon, and Lieutenant Pekar contemplates what his ultimate goal will be. Enjoy!

Well, we have finished out the first ten days of the project! Thanks so much to you guys for showing an interest and for giving me your support. I have added a chapter to the project page. Meet the crew who we will following down the Long Highway. The opening chapter should provide some insight into the world of Dragonford, and some of the conflicts that we will be seeing down the road between our cast of characters. Happy reading!

Great read...Not necessarily my genre but it kept me engaged with its highly descriptive text and characters of interest. A style of writing that spills you over the edge into chaos, death and magic. Left me eagerly contemplating the next chapter.....Definitely worth a read....
