Aelyth, like all women of her tribe, is born into a caste system that determines her life’s role. When she realizes she is with child, her position within the tribe is elevated to near holy status. But, when events conspire against her, she is suddenly cast out from her home, to die in the desert. This is only just the beginning for Aelyth; she is after all, a Daughter of the Sword, and they do not die meekly.
Daughter of the Sword is about one woman’s struggle against her own nature, the harsh world she has to survive, and the society she is thrust in to. It is the journey of a woman without a homeland struggling to make her own way in a world that is both dangerous and foreign to her while still holding on to the ideals that make her who she is. All of the events of her life are leading her to a fate that could see the world she once knew irrevocably changed.
My name is Kenneth Centers, and Daughter of the Sword is my first novel. I am the co-writer and co-creator of an ongoing independent comic book series entitled Astropunk, which is a retro-futuristic space opera set in a dystopian image of our own solar system. I am a husband of 6 years, and a father to a daughter who is nearly 2 years old. For the last two years I have worked on and studied the craft of writing, both long format and script writing, and hope that Daughter of the Sword can be an interesting run through the lives of interesting people. I have been telling stories (though not writing in the traditional sense) for 25 years, through the wonderful exercise of role-playing, and this book is part homage to games like Dungeons and Dragons, Shadowrun, Rifts, World of Darkness, and many others that have inspired me and shaped my views.
This book is a work in progress, but the groundwork is all laid out. Plot, characters, and setting are all in place and ready to go…Now, all that is left is the always simple task of putting words on a page…So, some of the ways you can help in this process would be reading and critical review. Input from outside sources is essential to any creative process, without it, you’re just shouting into the vacuum of your own head. So as chapters get posted, read them, then shoot me an email and tell me what worked, what didn’t work, and why. Hell, tell me about anything you want really. You can also help by sharing and suggesting this book to your friends, family, and co-workers. And lastly, if you like what you see and read, consider pre-ordering, or just drop me a line wishing me luck, every word of encouragement helps in these times.
…Well, I guess that’s it for now. I will be updating this page in the coming days with a cover image, and I’m going to start banging away one of those chapters. Until then, thank you for taking the time to read this, and good luck to everyone on Inkshare who is currently in the struggle.
