Dandy The Dumb Blonde Horse is a fiction book that will sweep you away into humor, drama, and the unknown.
Basically Dandy is a Palomino mix filly with a lot of spirit and unusual physical and mental characteristics for a horse. She’s the apple of the eye of her owner Jane a recent college grad who pampers Dandy with Barbie dolls, flatscreen television, and anything else Dandy enjoys.
The story takes place on the O’Brien ranch in the Southwest. Jane’s family has had the ranch for over 100 years. There they raise livestock and hold tours of the surrounding region. Jane’s father and mother are the patriarch and matriarch of the ranch and are admired and respected by the surrounding community. People come from all points to enjoy the O’Brien ranch with its petting zoos, horseback rides, camping, and occasional shindig. Helping out on the ranch are Jane’s older brothers and the staff. Generally things go well on the O’Brien ranch and Dandy is often the center of attention.
The filly just won’t stay out of trouble. Her sense of humor is uncanny. It’s as though she knows what is going to happen before it does and brooks no dishonest people. She can smell evil a country mile away. Speaking of evil, no good story is without its villains and in this one there’s Miss Clench the county animal executive and the Scurry family with Pa Scurry and his two mean sons. Ever envious of the O’Briens, Clench and the Scurry clan often try to undermine them to gain the land and livestock.
Dandy The Dumb Blonde Horse delves into the belief systems of animals we humans are unaware of. Basically in the story it is revealed that all animals believe that we two legged humans are handicapped and we need their help. Dogs were first to help and then came cats and horses, cows, and the like. Each animal has their own religious beliefs but all fall under God.
This brings us to the upcoming turmoil of the story when Dandy is threatened after causing chaos during Jane’s wedding reception. Dandy felt that if Jane got married she would go away forever and this set the filly off. This allowed Miss Clench the opportunity to declare the O’Brien ranch a hazard and Dandy should be medicated or put down. Dandy sensing the danger makes good her escape with her farm friends, Tornado the ranch’s senior Newfoundland dog, Ms. Pounce a cat, and Jet a high flying young falcon who is enamored by the speed of airplanes. Together they venture to where they fell Dandy will be safe, a mysterious area of the desert called Courage Canyon.
From there the story goes into a look into the spiritual side of animals and what they go through we humans have little understanding of. This challenge brings in the humans and villains and climaxes into a revelation that will make readers gasp in awe and roll on the floor with laughter.
