One breezy morning, where the wild flowers grow and the soaring birds sing high and low, beyond the river and through the wood, upon a hill six young bucks stood.
They lowered their heads and kicked the ground! Once they collided, you heard the sound, "Clickety clack! Bang and rattle!” Pairs of bucks in playful battle.
This morning’s lesson is competition, these tough young bucks all have a mission. Each buck’s duty is the same: learn to fight or lose the game. Dama did not like this class, he hid away and chewed the grass.
Dama thought that life is fleeting, there’s no reason for competing. An unknown fragrance tickled his snout, Dama followed its trail to figure it out. This aroma was new, he never smelt it before. Into the woods, Dama went to explore.
Through the bushes, deep into the wood, Dama sniffed it out as best he could. His eyes couldn’t believe just what he had found, a large purple flower had grown from the ground.
Dama leaned in close and inspected the flower, it seemed to have some sort of deep-rooted power. Before he knew it and without his control, Dama gobbled the plant and swallowed it whole!
It had sweetness and zest, the flavour was new. It tasted like orange, green, yellow and blue! Dama peered through the trees and saw the sunset, he must hurry home, or his mother would fret.
That night underneath a bright shining moon, at the strike of twelve, in the month of June, Dama’s young antlers began to sprout. Bright green blossoms were growing out!
When morning came, Dama had a thirst, he ran to the river and arrived there first! Dama drank and drank and drank some more, this water had quenched like never before!
Dama opened his eyes and couldn’t believe the wonderful sight that his eyes did perceive. He saw the small flora all growing about, so he scratched on the redwood to scrape the sprouts out! “Ouch!”
He never could feel with his antlers before, a breeze blew overhead and he felt the wind soar. Dama could feel the slightest change in weather, a faraway storm or the flick of a feather.
One by one, his deer friends came. Each one reacted just the same, “You’re different; you’re strange, bizarre & so weird!” They laughed at poor Dama, they taunted & jeered.
Surrounded by his herd, Dama felt alone, so he gathered all his courage and travelled on his own. He did not know which way to go, Sometimes it’s good to just not know.
Question what the unknown brings, investigate and learn new things. Dama took a deep breath and went out to explore, he wandered down paths never travelled before...
