This is the first installment of my "Expats" series. The story is told from the point of view of a female aircraft mechanic in the U.S. Air force. The plot takes place in the US, at Bagram Airfield, in Baghdad, Heidelberg... I had the idea for this novel after I wrote "Queen of Estonia". What all my novels have in common is the fact that the main characters are always Native Americans. In this story, the hero is Marina Laroque, a young woman who gets abducted in Baghdad. All the odds are against her. In order to survive, she has to entertain her abductors, so she tells them stories about her first deployment to Afghanistan. I did a lot of research for this project and even took a transatlantic flight to discuss my book with a member of the US military. Marina is my favorite character. She shows up in all the Expats books because she is a trouble magnet, thus providing me with fantastic plot points... You may also want to check out "A Fierce Love of the Country", a spy thriller where Marina plays a pivotal role. Send me some feedback!
