About the Project

Clockwork Twist: Dreamer is a steampunk novel that will immerse you in a lush and vibrant word in the heart of the Victorian era. Airship pirates rule the skies. Everyone you meet could be a magical creature like a Djinn, a Kitsune or a Vampire in disguise. Bustles, top hats, and goggles are the fashion of the day.

Twist is an unassuming clock maker, happy in his quiet and solitary life in London. He is also the owner of a powerful heightened sense known as a Sight. With a single touch, he can feel and understand the damage in anything he touches. This is helpful when mending clockwork, but torturous in social situations.

As is true with any great adventure, Twist’s quiet days are numbered. When a treasure hunter visits his shop with a broken fragment of the mythical clockwork princes, and a promise that she is not just a fairy tale, Twist finds himself compelled to help her. Whisked away from his sedate existence on a airship full of dangerous looking scalawags who promise they are not pirates, Twist struggles to adapt and remain sane.

The story crisscrosses the globe by airship, steam train, sailing ship, and submersible, while Twist encounters strange creatures, lots of pirates, and occasional magicians and inventors. All the while, he learns how to trust, and how to love, for the first time. Each new wonder brings him closer to the truth of his own existence, and the mysteries of his own past.

The first two books in the series, Waking and Trick, take Twist from London to Nepal, and from Bombay to Berlin. Along the way, he slowly falls in love with the clockwork princes who he originally went to save, and befriends a sky pirate who has a Sight as powerful and dangerous as his own. Questions also start to surface around Twist’s Sight, which is far more dangerous and restrictive than most people’s. A mystery begins to grow around him, and leads him ever farther into the unknown.

The third book in this series, Clockwork Twist: Dreamer, delves even deeper into this mystery and introduces new influential allies and threats. There will be twelve books in this series, and one or two will be released each year. Much of the story is already written and waiting to see daylight. All that we need now is the distribution and marketing that it will take to change this series from a hidden gem into a wild success.

With your Money

Inkshares is a purely crowdfunded publishing house. All of the usual costs of editing, production, printing, distribution, and marketing are done with the money that is raised from the crowd.

With the funds raised here, Inkshares and I will continue this long running series and bring Clockwork Twist out of the shadows of obscurity. The first 2 books in this series have been released through independent means, but nothing has yet been done on this scale. With a story so intrepid, it’s only fitting to put it into mass publication and distribution.
