The world is filled with clamorous shadows and unspoken clarity. A place of hope and despair, life and unlife.
Here, destiny favors the bold, carving heroes and villains from the earth, the sky, and the sea. But not every hero is given a choice; and not every villain starts out that way.
This is Brimcliff. An epic fantasy for kids.
Brimcliff is a multi-branched Young Adult epic fantasy with a strong water/ocean vibe. It is composed of different serialized stories, telling of an ancient and ongoing conflict with an aggressive race of sea beings known as tritons. The mythological Triton from the Greek tradition may be seen as being only the sparest remnant of the true history surrounding this powerful species. Brimcliff storylines take place in both the ancient past, during the Great Triton War, and in the present day, when these creatures are seeking their return.
Brimcliff is made up of two Settings, and each Setting is, in turn, made up of two Series. Each installment of a Series is called an Episode. This means that there are four ongoing Series, each of which is only telling one piece of a single grand story. The two Series within a particular Setting take place simultaneously, though in different locations in the world (or even outside the world).
All Series utilize the same mythology and story bible, but tell their respective tales in different ways.
Details the high fantasy adventures of a combined force of human and seafolk teens/tweens opposing the triton war machine and its horrible Bleached King.
Fathomheart
Sword & Sorcery, high fantasy. In this one, we have wizards, monsters, and great battles on and under the sea. It features the allied forces of various human and magical beings that have come together to fight the tritons on this world (a group known as the Deep Council). The adventures of two seafolk girls, Bhavjeet and Elouwi, soldiers in the war, feature prominently.
Seeona’s Pod
Survivalist fantasy/adventure. This Series features young people (human and otherwise) trapped and surviving by their wits behind enemy lines. Follows a mixed group of teenage human and magical beings held as hostages upon the triton world. They are the children of certain members of the Deep Council, kidnapped and threatened with death, to force the Council to build a stable water door from the Endless Sea to Earth. In the end, the children were sacrificed by their parents, who chose to close the gate in order to stop the tritons. The kids manage to escape their bonds, but are trapped in the Endless Sea, hunted by evil forces, and unable to get home. Features an ensemble cast, who fight and fall in love with equal ferocity, led by the teen mermaid Seeona.
Describes the modern fantasy adventures of human and magical folk, teens and tweens, who learn about the hidden history of the world, and step up to face the danger posed by the Bleached King’s return.
Stone Shores
Dark urban fantasy, filled with creeping dread and terrible secrets. Set in the fictional town of Brimcliff, Maine, which is rapidly becoming a nexus for dark and unusual happenings. Fourteen-year old Dani Henderson learns she is part of an ancient race, and that she has extraordinary powers. She makes friends, earns the enmity of some dreadful creatures, and assumes a central role in the coming conflict.
The Cleaning Crew
Leans more toward the super-hero paradigm. This Series features highly trained, jet-setting young people with extraordinary abilities, battling modern tritons (who have learned to mimic human form) in the shadows and upon the rooftops. Features a mixed group of teens, human and otherwise, brought together by an enigmatic philanthropic society. They have been trained to work as a team, and are dispatched globally to deal with magical/otherworldly crises. Led by the handsome, charismatic Aaron Belle, a sixteen year old boy with incredible physical powers, and terrible secret he must keep hidden at all costs.
The ultimate goal of the two settings, Churning Gate and Rising Tide, is to create a final time-bridging/pan-dimensional showdown with the Bleached King and his forces, in which the major characters from all four series come together to destroy him for good.
Because Brimcliff is aimed at younger readers, teen romance will play a prominent role in each series -- though (in theory) it won’t distract from all the magic and action.
All four series are tightly connected, even if it doesn’t always seem that way, and they will cross-pollinate as required.
A new installment for alternating Settings will come out each week, so that each Series is advanced by one Episode per month, while the overall saga is advanced by four.
Weekly installments would run around 5,000 words, with a month producing around 20,000. Occasional bonuses would appear in the pipeline as well, such as world maps and illustrations.
Any feedback on this idea would be most welcome. With your help and enthusiasm, I will bring this epic tale to life, and serve up new adventure and romance each week!
