19 years ago, Leyla’s parents (and the parents of her best friend Reed) were members of a secret religious order. The pantheon of gods that they worshiped were continuously reincarnated in pairs as the newborn children of the order’s most devout followers, each generation led by one of these pairs.
When a dangerous sect formed inside the order bent on gathering all of the gods in one enormously powerful generation, Leyla and Reed’s expectant parents fled the order and hid, worried their children would be used in their dark plot.
When Leyla was born, her parents realized that they hadn’t escaped fast enough - one pair of gods had already chosen their new hosts. Her parents performed a strong binding ritual to hide her past life memories, as well as her powers, from her. Reed, however, was born unexpectedly early and, although they were able to bind his past life memories, they did not have time to bind his powers.
Years later, just months after graduation, their parents fear that the religious order may finally be catching up, so they might not be able to hide the truth from Leyla and Reed much longer.
Amber was raised in a small town Tennessee. She’s been a book lover since kindergarten, and an aspiring author since her undergraduate years at NYU, but she’s just now finally making her way into the writing world. Now, Amber attends graduate school at UCSD in San Diego and, when she’s not TAing, doing coursework, or working on research, she’s fostering the universes waiting to move from her mind to the paper.
Thank you for checking out my draft!
