Camp Siegfried was not just any summer camp, but rather, a Nazi-American preparatory facility in New York dedicated to the values of Hitler’s Third Reich. An unlikely place for two young men to fall in love.

World War II looms in 1938.Bastian Fisher, a handsome, resilient 17-year- old from a poor neighborhood, crosses paths at Camp Siegfried with the privileged Max Amsel, a slender boy who needs a hand, a shoulder to cry on, and a friend. Neither have any idea what to do with their blooming, confusing feelings for one another.

After Max’s father dies suddenly, Max boards a ship bound for Rome, leaving Bastian in New York.

Fast-forward five years. Bastian’s army platoon has landed in Salerno, Italy where, in secret, he continues his search for Max, while fighting a war. Max is in Nazi-occupied Rome where he has negotiated a plan to hire Jews on as ‘extras’ in a movie, in a ruse to escape the Nazis. Hiding in Saint Paul’s Basilica for several months, the hundreds of cast and crew watch as war overtakes Rome through the lenses of film cameras and stained glass. Bastian is sent to Rome to collect intelligence and help the Allies take the city back from the Nazis. Soon they are reunited, Bastian attempting to protect Max’s life as Max tries to save everyone else’s. Can the two reconcile their love for one another amongst the fighting and hatred to discover if they have a future BEYOND THE WAR?
