When a lone goblin researcher stumbles across an artifact containing a terrifying message—that the world is in grave and immediate peril—she scrambles to find help. A very unusual asteroid (one constructed as a cage for dragons) is headed straight for the planet, and Xenon is the only person in the world who knows. As she clambers across hill and dale with her quill, journal, and dwindling coin purse to untangle the mystery, she’ll need plenty of luck to find the right clues and the right sort of help.
Meanwhile, our heroes have their own problems. They have a bank to rob, a sea to cross, and a kingdom to infiltrate. Luckily, Rime is a wild mage—the laws of reality quiver when she gives them a stern look—and her guardian, Jonas, wields a reasonably sharp sword. But Rime is slipping ever closer to the abyss of madness, and Jonas is wanted for murder at their final port of call. To make matters worse, the mage-killing Hunt and its commander, Linus, follow the duo like a patient shadow, bent on Rime’s destruction.
When the wise are underfunded, the brave are overbooked, and the cruel are unconcerned, can the world be saved from destruction?
In his formative college years at University of Georgia, G. Derek Adams spent his time cultivating a love of words, theater, and Dungeons & Dragons. Adams has written two previous novels and is threatening to write more. He has an abiding love for the fantasy universe and an unabashed desire to play within it. Adams lives in Athens, Georgia, with his beloved, a dog, two cats, and a rescue warg.
My first two books Spell/Sword and The Riddle Box are attempts at exploring the ’consensus fantasy universe’ of sword and sorcery that Terry Pratchett described more eloquently than I ever could. You’ve been there before - swords are sharp, magic is weird but common. You know the way. You love it. I just added more dinosaurs and electric guitars. Asteroid Made of Dragons is another swing at the fences of Genre Conversation, the wonder of the familiar odd, and the magic that cannot be explained -- only recognized.
The book is complete and on track for release in April of 2016! Follow along for frequent updates on the progress of development, odd thoughts about centaurs, and semi-regular stupid pictures of dragons. You can also pre-order the book right now and save yourself the trauma of me inevitably wearing you down.
