C is for Crawfish, all steamy and covered in spice.
And D is for Doberge cake, but only a small slice!
E is for the Egret in the sky, flying about.
F is for the Flambeau carrier, illuminating the parade route.
G is for the Gumbo Mama’s cooking in her pot.
H is for just a hint of Hot Sauce. Be careful! Not a lot!
I is for the Mardi Gras Indians in their pretty suits, parading in the street.
J is for Jazzy Music that makes you move your feet!
K is for the King Cake Baby in the dough, hidden away.
L is for Louisiana, the 18th state in the USA.
M is for the Magnolia flowers blooming in the spring.
N is for the Nutria and his orange teeth – he chews on everything!
O is for Oysters raw or broiled, however you like them best.
And P is for a Po’ boy – make sure you order it dressed!
Q is for the Quarter, New Orleans’ oldest neighborhood.
R is for Red Beans and Rice on a Monday night. Mmm, that sounds good!
S is for Sno-ball, deliciously cold and sweet.

U is for an Uptown ride where the streetcar track begins.
And V is for a Voodoo Doll, poked all over with pins.
W is for the West Bank, across the bridge where the river flows.
X marks storm-damaged houses searched by brave heroes.

And Z is for Mardi Gras morning when we say “Hail, Zulu!”
