Walking down the unfamiliar road, I kept my eyes peeled, looking for the bright-eyed dark haired girl who grew up with me. The crowd around us was unsettling. I’d never before seen so many two-legged’s in the same place. Thankfully, Ivan was nearby to help me look, so I wasn’t as unnerved by the furless creatures.

Turning a corner, I started walking down hill toward the entrance to what the Council called “city of Athnos.” Ivan walked behind me, both of us keeping a watchful eye for our pack mate.

Walking past a building that reeked of waste, a male walked out and began to follow us. Ivan noticed and began to bear his teeth, while I continued to look for our sister.

“Hey beautiful. How much for a night?” I turned my head and watched as the male who was following us stumbled his way towards me.

“Yeah, I’m talking to you, baby. How much for a night?”

Not knowing what he meant, I simply cocked my head slightly, unsure of how to respond. Really, I was trying to process what I had heard amongst the Watchers, the Guardians, and even the rare occasions when I heard one of the Ladies speak. I could recall nothing from my conversation amongst any within the Moons’ shields that was similar to how this male spoke to me.

When the male got within arms reach of me, Ivan stepped in the way, a snarl on his maw. Or I should call it a face. After all, we are in human form.

“What’s the deal? Is this your girl or something?” The male looked generally surprised that Ivan stood in between him and myself. Only I noticed the way Ivan tensed his shoulders. Only I new what came next.

“She doesn’t want you, drunk.” Ivan stared at the man, his arms tensing for a fight. The male on his part then began to get angry.

“If she isn’t yours, don’t talk for her. Shes can talk for herself.”

Ivan then reared his fist back and swung across the jaw of the other male. The man was lifted off of his feet and flew backwards, twisting in the air. I watched calmly as the male landed on the ground face first.

The people around us suddenly stopped, and there was a tense quiet. The male began to rise up, spitting blood in front of him. When he rose onto his feet, he turned, blood seeping from a small cut on his lip.

“Ya know what? Forget her. I’m ready to beat you meself.” The male rose his fists up, a little less wobbly than before. That was when the chanting began.

        “Fight! Fight! Fight! Fight! Fight!”

Hearing the word, I understood what it meant, and looked to Ivan. He had a bright smile on his face.

Wrapping my arms around his chest, I began pulling him toward an opening between the buildings. He fought against me, and I knew he would. What I didn’t expect was the crowd forming a battle ring around us, still chanting.

“So you need a girl to help you run?” The other male continued to pester Ivan, trying to rouse him to anger. I kept pulling on Ivan when suddenly there was a loud roar in the direction we were headed.

        “Get out the way!”

Suddenly, the crowd parted down the road from that direction, and three figures stepped through. A grey creature with a jaw the jutted forward with tusks poking past his lips. A fair skinned creature wearing golden armor. And her.
