Andromeda is the key.

Stephen Corona is the son of the founder of a prominent pharmaceutical company, Corona Medical. He’s always tried to make it on his own, never wanting to use his family name to succeed. His research on artificial intelligence is close to a breakthrough when his AI project named Andromeda exhibits promising results.

Everything changes with the murder of his father. Corona Medical had just developed the Source Repair, a nanotech treatment that can cure almost any illness, but the data is locked and only Stephen can solve the puzzle. Unsure of who to trust, his life is put into the hands of a mysterious young man who is sworn to protect him.

Stephen wants nothing more than to go back to his quiet life and work on his project. Inside of Andromeda’s base code, he discovers a cryptic message from his father: “Andromeda is the key.” When he is targeted by Orion City’s guild of assassins known as Orion’s Shield, Stephen Corona is thrust in the middle of a power struggle between multiple factions who want the Source Repair for themselves.

As his life is falling apart around him, Stephen struggles to piece together the puzzle left behind by his father. Will he be able to stay alive long enough to unravel the mystery and set things right?

"A Stay of Execution" is at its heart a story of betrayal, and of second chances. It’s a science fiction story with a cyberpunk flair. Think Assassin’s Creed meets Blade Runner with a little bit of political intrigue thrown in the mix.

Stephen Corona

Stephen is a nineteen year old college student on the eve of graduation. Son of David Corona, founder of the world renowned Corona Medical, a lot is expected of him. He hates using his family name to advance, as he feels that if he cannot make it on his own merits then he’s not truly succeeding. He graduated high school early and was admitted to the same prestigious college that his father attended. With his teachers always comparing him to his father, it hadn’t been easy for Stephen. He had focused his study in the field of artificial intelligence, rather than medicine, in part to differentiate himself, and also because it simply interested him more.

***

As a fan of science fiction for as long as I can remember, it’s difficult to find sci-fi novels featuring a gay main character that isn’t the driving force of the book. In "A Stay of Execution", the main character is gay, but that is only one aspect of his personality.

**The cover of the book says Patrick O’Brien because that is my pen name.**
