The Ghost Camel books, chronicling the adventures of aviatrix Audrey Barlow, have been firing the imagination of the British public and keeping Looming Press in the black since Eric Peterkin first began evaluating manuscripts for that publishing house. These adventures are almost certainly based on one Aubrey "Badger" Darrow, son of Looming Press’s editor-in-chief, and missing since the Armistice. But when Badger’s aeroplane is recovered off the coast of the Isle of Wight, Eric runs head-first into a shocking discovery: his best friend, Avery Ferrett, is actually Avery Darrow, Badger Darrow’s brother, and Eric’s employment at Looming Press had a lot less to do with Eric’s own merits than with Avery’s relationship to the editor-in-chief.

Avery calls in his favourite spirit medium, Madame Davidova, to divine the truth about Badger’s disappearance. When Madame Davidova herself is found hanged in her seance room with her own scarf, Avery turns to Eric for help. And Eric, deeply regretting the rift in their friendship since the revelation of Avery’s true identity, readily agrees.

The medium’s killer has left a peculiar calling card at the feet of their victim. A Tarot card, in fact: the Fool, symbolising fresh beginnings and unrealised potential. Is this the beginning of something worse?

Christopher Huang grew up in Singapore and moved to Canada when he was seventeen. He returned to Singapore the following year to serve his two years of National Service, before moving on to McGill University to study Architecture. After several years living and working in Montreal, he now lives in Calgary.

A longtime fan of the "golden age" of detective fiction and the principles of fair play governing the genre, he is firmly of the belief that the primary attraction of detective fiction is that readers should be able to solve the mystery themselves from the given clues, prior to the grand denouement.

His other works include:

  • A Gentleman’s Murder, introducing Eric Peterkin as he is faced with the brutal murder of his London club’s newest member, a conscientious objector with ulterior motives for joining the old soldiers’ club;
  • A Pretender’s Murder, in which Eric Peterkin deals with the murder of Colonel Hadrian Russell, acting club president since the events of the previous novel and father-in-law to four war widows;
  • Unnatural Ends, in which three siblings return for their adoptive father’s funeral, only to find that, in the case of his death being due to unnatural means, his will leaves everything to whichever one of them solves the murder;
  • The Hero Unmasked!, an interactive adventure story published by Choice Of Games.

He is not the author of any medical textbooks. That’s someone else.

The first draft of the novel has been completed, and is currently awaiting a full editorial go-over.
