My Jewel

There is a spot in my heart, For one girl alone, She’s the one and only, I’ll take her for my own.

To look into her eyes, Is to find heaven there, Her lips are like roses, All puckered with care.

She’s a jewel amongst women, A queen amongst men, And each night and day, I fall in love again.

Without her life is empty, With her life is full, Without her not worth living, A life empty and dull.

My love for her, Will eternally shine, For the girl, I’ve taken, To be mine, all mine.

A Mystery

Is there a force, With power so great, That changes a man, From meek to unafraid?

It makes heroes of cowards, Changes wise men into fools, None can bend or shape it, Not even, the most powerful tools.

No one can explain it, It comes as swiftly as light, And none can escape it, With its tremendous might.

Love is this mystery, It is as bright as the sun, As lovely as the stars, For its God it comes from.

The Waves & You

The beach was where I found you, Sitting gracefully in the sand, And the waves were crashing around you, As I took you by the hand.

Your hair was flying in the wind, Your eyes were shining bright, Suddenly I felt a strange sensation, A feeling of pure delight.

The waves will crash eternally, Against the sands of time, As this feeling for you grows and grows, Into a love divine.

Anatomy

My brain thinks of you, Whether you’re here or away, My eyes constantly see you, Whether it is night or day.

My feet want to bring me to you, Whether it is rain or shine, My hands want to hold you, And make you all mine.

But my heart has the biggest job to do, To hold this great love, I have for you.

The Eternal Search

There must be a maiden somewhere, Who is sweet, lovely and fair, Who’s blue eyes shine, When they gaze into mine, But where, Oh where, Oh where.

Can it be that I’ll find her someday, It matters not in which way, If destiny is truly man’s friend, That guides you through to the end, It will find the way, And I’ll meet her that day, But how, Oh how, Oh how.

When suddenly along came Lillian, Who can smile as no one can, When I take her into my arms, And realize all of her charms, I will try to make her mine, all mine, Till the moon and stars cease to shine, I shall try night and day, Until she will say, I love you, only you, just you.

About the Author:

Sidney Rosenblum was born in Hamburg, Germany on January 17, 1926. He emigrated to the U.S with his family on the Aquitania, the last boat allowed out of Germany in the fall of 1938. When he was 17, he returned to Europe, serving as an American soldier in the European and Rhineland regions in WWII, where he earned a bronze star for courage in battle. After the war, Sid met the love of his life, Lillian, on Far Rockaway Beach, New York, and he married her on February 3, 1951 - a love that endured for 63 years. To his children, their spouses, his grandchildren, and the many people whose lives he touched in his 88 years, Sid was known for his sense of humor, his generosity of spirit, and high ideals. But it was not until his passing they learned that he was a true romantic, as embodied in many poems and essays written for Lillian and lovingly preserved over the years. This brief collection was assembled by Sid's granddaughter, Raissa. It is meant as a lasting tribute to a man who treasured his family above all else, so his true spirit and passion for life and love can be known for generations to come.
