The bullet flew just a few inches above his ear, but that wouldn’t stop Basil from running. Neither the constant shouting from the guards behind him. Besides he could not hear them under the heavy storm. It didn’t matter anyways, they knew he wouldn’t surrender. Either he would escape prison or die trying.
He slid in an alley and jumped over a small fence. His feet landed hard on the concrete sending jolts to his entire body, forcing him to bite his lip in pain. He stopped for a moment and grabbed his knees. "We have to be smart, star priyatel" he told himself as he started running again- "we are not in our 30s anymore". He could hear their footsteps again.
The alley took him to an open area with a large metal fence in front of him. A metal sign on top read "Orestiada Train Station". That must be in Northern Greece. "How the fuck did i end up here?" A thunder and then the faint whistle of a departing local train in the distance. Basil’s eyes shone with a glimpse of new hope. He spit on his blistered hands and started climbing the fence. His ticket to freedom was there, but it would expire any minute now.
