J-F Dubeau has created the universe that I would have wished for the future of humanity had I the capacity to consider beyond corporeal form. He has managed to combine the science fiction universe of outer space and robots with ancient ideas similar to reincarnation and the refinement of souls.
I was instantly drawn into the adventures of Dagir and followed her journey as she readjusts to her form and the world around her until the very end in a single sitting. There's nothing quite like stretching from sitting in one position after immersing oneself in another life for just a few hours.
Dubeau's writing is filled with optimism and the bright-eyed excitement of someone who truly loves what they do. I live in a world filled with books and I've never regretted that fact, however, coming across something as delightful and original as The Life Engineered is still wonderfully refreshing.
